Online courses (MOOCs)
The digital learning portfolio I led at IIHS — five MOOCs and eleven modules on Coursera and edX, grown to 28,000+ enrolments.
- The Art and Science of Economic Policy
Synthesizes a century of combined policy experience — taught by IIHS Director Aromar Revi with economists Vijay Kelkar and Ajay Shah — into the why, when, what, and how of economic policymaking. Six modules run from why governments exist, through the 'science' of incentives, pricing, and competition, to the 'art' of context, patience, and managing complexity, closing on implementation and state capacity. Built for civil-services aspirants, public servants, and policy students.
- Housing Justice: A View from Indian Cities
Taught by Gautam Bhan and Swastik Harish, the course frames housing justice through material, ecological, social, and spatial lenses — rooted in Indian cities but applicable globally. Seven modules cover adequate housing, rental and tenure systems, collective action, and the modes of action available through law, policy, and projects, woven together with first-person accounts from housing activists and a peer-reviewed op-ed assignment.
- Shaping Urban Futures
Draws on the five-year PEAK Urban research programme — 100+ researchers across China, Colombia, India, South Africa, and the UK — to examine the cities of the global South, where most 21st-century urban growth will land. It applies the PEAK framework (Prediction, Emergence, Adoption, Knowledge) to interlocking questions of public health, climate change, migration, and informality, asking learners to imagine how they can shape the cities of tomorrow.
- Net-Zero Building Fundamentals
Co-offered with the Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE) and led by Prasad Vaidya, this 13-module course teaches affordable, evidence-based design for climate-resilient, high-performance buildings. It runs from energy performance and the building envelope through passive design, natural ventilation, HVAC right-sizing, net-zero water, embodied carbon, and cost feasibility — pairing building science with lifecycle and financial analysis.
- Writing and Disseminating Grey Literature
A practical course on turning research into public-facing knowledge — op-eds, data stories and infographics, photo narratives, and social-media strategy — for researchers and practitioners who want reach beyond the academic journal. Nine modules move from grey-literature fundamentals through format-by-format craft to self-editing, anchored by peer-reviewed assignments.
Films — water & sanitation
Instructional and explainer films built for the IIHS-anchored Tamil Nadu Urban Sanitation Support Programme (TNUSSP).
- Dos & Don'ts for Construction of a Septic Tank
A six-minute animated instructional film produced under the IIHS-anchored Tamil Nadu Urban Sanitation Support Programme. It walks masons, contractors, households, and Urban Local Body officers through septic-tank design standards, the public-health stakes, and the consequences of cutting corners — pitched at once to field practitioners and the officials who regulate them.
- Karunguzhi Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant
An explainer film on one of Tamil Nadu's operational FSTPs — a 23.4 KLD natural-biological-treatment plant on 1.5 acres at Karunguzhi, 82 km from Chennai. It walks viewers unit by unit through how faecal sludge is actually treated, making working sanitation infrastructure legible to the public and to the local bodies that must run it.
